It was a test of stamina and a testament of nobility and generosity in the first ever GISU Marathon which we witnessed on Saturday, September 24th 2016. The Marathon, with the theme: “RUN FOR THE HANDICAPPED” was organized to raise funds for the Kampala School of the physically handicapped. It is in tandem with the charity drives the school will hold this academic year as we uphold our cardinal principle of reaching out to meet the needs of the people in our community.
The sporty event attracted the GISU Parents, Students, Administration and Staff; the large hearted Lubowa community; the Kampala school for the handicapped staff, pupils and well- wisher. The Super excited and enthusiastic runners were flagged off from Galaxy International School Uganda at 7:45 am to race along the Lubowa Circuit. It was for the Lubowa Community’s eyes only as the steadfast participants tenaciously dashed, raced and jogged while others walked the circuit at their discretion – all for our good cause. Meanwhile, there were games and activities running- all organized for the little ones who would not hit the race track.
All our participants emerged winners as they all completed the circuit. The events was wrapped up with a mini- get- together in which all the participants shared a snack and info about the projects that can be engaged in, at the Kampala School for the Physically Handicapped. All the proceeds of this year’s Marathon will serve to help that focus school.
Our superlative appreciation goes to all the Sponsors of the event, Our Parents, Guest Athletes, Students, the Organisers, all the participants and the entire Lubowa Community for honoring our invitation to this noble cause.
