GISU’S DUKE OF EDINBURGH EXPEDITION TRAILER

Galaxy International School Uganda’s second Bronze expedition was a huge success! Our GISU Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award Leaders took a team of 29 energetic students to Fort Portal in Western Uganda for their Adventurous Journey as a requirement for attaining the DofE Bronze Award.

The expedition which started on 16th October and ended on 19th October was a true test of our students’ endurance in the 24 kilometers’ hike in the Rwenzori mountain ranges, Crater lakes and the Western arm of the Great East African Rift Valley. We savored the beautiful Scenery and did community service in three less privileged homes.

Our students donated household items to a 25 year old widow living with her two children, an elderly woman taking care of four orphans and an elderly man living with six orphans.

They also spent some time cleaning, digging and cooking for these families as well as interacting with the local community! Our participants set up their own tents and the entire camp, built campfires, cooked their own food; acquired a number of survival skills and learnt the importance of teamwork and resilience.

Through this excursion, all our participants were able to meet the requirement of the Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award Program at Bronze Level. Our sincere gratitude to all our valiant participants for their commitment, cooperation, discipline and perseverance.

We also wish to thank our parents for all their support and confidence in us; our Award leaders for chaperoning our participants; the Representatives from DofE, Uganda for all the guidance and support and to our School Administration for all support rendered to our gallant Participants.
